Day #6 October 5 & 6, 2016 Meridian Transits

Today was mainly about crossing meridians to the east, as Colorado and Kansas are flat and uninteresting unless you love corn fields. I didn't even take a picture because we were on Interstate 70 traveling at mostly 80 mph. We traveled 622 miles and it seemed easy. We only stopped for coffee and gasoline and again for lunch and a nice dark beer at a microbrewery.

The time zone change from Mountain Time to Central Time was not even noticed. Using my wrist watch time (Mountain Time), we found a motel in Columbia, OH..."The Days Inn" that you should avoid should be in the area. It is cheap enough at $101/night and includes WiFi and Breakfast, but it is very noisy and not up to usual cleanliness standards of other motels we have visited. There was a refrigeration truck parked outside of our bedroom window (that Earline left open and tried to blame on me in the morning) and the trucks refrigeration unit kept cycling along with the room window heater. Gag me, it was a terrible night.

Earline was out of bed at roughly 4 am (really 3 am because we didn't know f the time zone shift). I remained until 5:15 am (Mountain time). It was then we noticed from out iPhones that the time zone shifted. Since I wanted to know where it shifted again, I looked up the time zones in the USA and found it shifts in Indiana...but not all of Indiana. It seems this is a very strange state for time zones.

Indiana Time Zones

Now if you read the above link, you will be privy to this interesting time zone shift. For me, I know I have to get a move on to get to Talmadge, OH where we expect to be today.

  1. Yeah. There isn't much to see after Denver while heading East. You will make good time crossing those states.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!
