Day #21, October 20, 2016 - Travel to Summersville, WV
After our final breakfast with Edgar and Beverley, we set off for Summersville, WV at 9:30 am. It was a beautiful day and the drive was scheduled to be 5 or 6 hours depending on traffic. The distance was roughly 350 miles.
We stopped for lunch at a quaint historic tavern in Clifton Forge, WV that apparently was a railroad town. The food and beer were exceptional and the price very reasonable. I would highly recommend stopping at this tavern for a travel break if you are ever in the area.
We drove through some very depressed areas of West Virginia and many houses that were damaged by recent flooding before arriving at Earl and Bonnie’s house. They were fortunate to find a property next to their daughter that was unfinished, but the price was only $67,000 and included six wooded acres. After some extensive renovation, the house turned out just wonderful!
Earl gave us a “mule” ride through the properties that was exciting before we went to his daughter’s house for dinner. It was nice to retire for the evening after full bellies and wine that we brought from California.
